Please note that the Government is planning to abolish the extension policy and switch back to the original settings in mid-2024. If you are eligible, we encourage you to apply for the extension as soon as possible before the policy ends.
In a recent announcement, the Australian Government announced that eligible graduates and 485 visa holders will receive an additional 2 years of post-study work rights starting from 1 July 2023. Find out more on our previous blog about the details of the 485 visa extension policy.
While it was initially stated that the 485 visas of eligible individuals would be automatically extended on the official Government website, many eligible existing 485 visa holders discovered on 1 July that their visas were not automatically extended. After investigating this issue, AAS has found that the extension is actually not automatically applied, and applicants will need to submit an application.
How to Apply?
The application process for the 485 visa extension is similar to the original 485 visa application. Currently, applicants are required to provide all the necessary documents and answer the questions included in the 485 visa application again. On top of that, applicants need to select the correct 485 stream and answer some questions regarding their eligibility for the extension.
Application Fee
If you already hold a 485 visa and are only applying for an extension, there is no application fee.
