What is Professional Year (PY)?

AAS realises that a lot of students are not familiar with Professional Year (PY). Students who want to immigrate to Australia you might consider, as it is a useful program.

PY is a training program dedicated to international graduates who specialised in accounting, IT, and engineering. Most importantly, the program provided local placement opportunities which is enhancing the employability in Australia and immigrating opportunities.

Navitas Professional organises the PY program. CPA, ACS, EA recognised the program. The program duration is 44 weeks, of which 32 weeks for lessons and 12 weeks of placement.

Here is a summary of the PY entry requirement and merits as an accountant, IT, and engineer.


Accounting (CPA)

Entry Requirement

Have completed accounting bachelor degree or master

Hold a 485 graduation visa and valid for 12 months

Have completed occupation pre-test (IELTs overall 6.0)

» You can get an exception for IELTs overall 7 requirement after completing the PY program

» +5 immigration points

IT (ACS)

Entry Requirement

Have completed IT bachelor degree or master

Hold a 485 graduation visa and valid for 12 months

 (IELTs overall 6.0)

»You can get an exception for a year field related experience for the skill assessment after completing the course

» +5 immigration points

Engineering (EA)

Entry Requirement

Have completed engineering bachelor degree or master

Hold a 485 graduation visa and valid for 12 months

Have completed occupation pre-test (IELTs overall 6.0)

» +5 immigration points after completing the program


Besides providing local work placement opportunities, the PY program also offers free workshops and networking events. Students will be able to meet people within the industry and build up connections. Moreover, students can learn how to write a resume and interviewing skills. These skills are practical and helpful to your future career.
