Northern Territory (NT) state nomination can be obtained through 2 main pathways for onshore applicants, which are Graduate stream and Resident stream

1. Graduate Stream

You will be eligible for a subclass 190 nomination if you are an NT international student graduate who has met the criteria below:

  • Completed one or more qualifications in NT successfully, at an NT-based institution for 2 years in a single tertiary course
  • Lived in the NT for at least 6 consecutive months immediately after the date of completion of your last qualification while holding subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa (bridging visa period inclusive)
    Graduates who live in the NT for less than 6 months will only be considered for a subclass 491 nomination
  • Demonstrated genuine efforts to obtain employment from an NT employer in nominated occupation both during and after your studies

2. Resident Stream

NT 190 Nomination

For those who are on temporary visas with work rights and residing in the NT, they will be eligible for a subclass 190 nomination if they:

  • Demonstrate that they have been living in the NT for at least 2 consecutive years immediately prior to application
  • Demonstrate that none of your dependants are residing in another state in Australia
  • Demonstrate full-time employment in the NT in an eligible occupation continuously for at least 2 years and the employment is available for at least a further 12 months

NT 491 Nomination

They will be considered for a subclass 491 nomination if they:

  • Demonstrate that you have been living in the NT for at least 12 consecutive months if you start living in the NT on or after 1 July 2020
  • Demonstrate that none of your dependants are residing in another state in Australia
  • Demonstrate full-time employment in the NT in an eligible occupation continuously for at least 6 consecutive months and the employment is available for at least a further 12 months

Employment Additional Requirements

They will also need to meet the employment requirements:

  • The position is based in the NT, and the employer have a record of trading in the NT for at least 12 months
  • You must be paid at market salary
  • Positions that are based at serviced office spaces or involve hot-desking arrangements will not be considered favourably in general
